Whilst the time Tottenham signed a player was all the way back in January this year, the rumours linking them with a January move have been rife. Mundo Deportivo have recently claimed that Tottenham are favourites to land the Ajax star duo, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt, although the supporters have already ruled themselves out of that one.

According to the report, Barcelona are now down the pecking order for the purchase of the two stars as Ajax are unhappy with the Catalan giants’ efforts to try and unsettle the young duo ahead of what looks like their imminent departure from the Eredivisie. It’s clear that these two are the next big stars of European football, and if Tottenham could sign them ahead of Barcelona and Manchester City then it would really be laying down a marker.
Whether Spurs sign the Ajax duo or anyone else, the most important thing for Tottenham is that they do open the chequebook come January. After going a whole summer without signing a single player the club are desperately in need of reinforcements, add the lack of signings to the mas of injuries they’ve got and you can see why the fans are getting irate with Pochettino and co higher up at the club, and now signings are an absolute must.

Tottenham fans have no faith in getting this double deal done but will be confident of signing at least someone when the window opens in just over a month.
