Tottenham: Christian Eriksen looks to be closer to Real Madrid move than ever before

Christian Eriksen’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is something that has been debated for what feels like a lifetime.

There have been doubts about his current contract situation for as long as many can remember, with AS claiming back in January that he was not prepared to sign a new deal with the Champions League runners-up.

Fast forward a few months and it seems the club’s confidence in getting their star man to commit to a new deal was given a lift as Goal suggested talks had started to reach a breakthrough in regards to the wages he would be earning.

Just a month later, Eriksen decided to go public about a potential ‘new challenge’ at Real Madrid with comments in made in an interview with Ekstra Bladet, however, Marca believe Zinedine Zidane is not believed to think the Dane would benefit his side moving forward and the interest was seemingly put on the back burner.

But, this whole transfer saga seems to have taken another turn in the road and it seems the £90million-rated maestro (Transfermarkt) could be closer to a move to the Santiago Bernabeu than it was thought.

According to a recent report by Danish newspaper Fyens (via AS), Eriksen’s family have already started to look for a place to live in the Spanish capital.

Whether it is in anticipation of a move to Real Madrid, or whether he just wants to have a home in the Spanish capital remains to be seen, but Sport Witness appear to be suggesting it is a destination he could be living in as he and his girlfriend are selling their London apartment.

There is no doubting that if he were to leave Tottenham this summer that it would be a huge blow, however, it might just be better for Spurs to put this whole transfer saga behind them sooner rather than later.

Despite having a rather solid campaign once again in the middle of the field last season, having scored 10 goals and provided his team-mates with 17 assists (Transfermarkt), it’s hard to deny the fact he has dipped in and out of form this season. The Telegraph wrote a piece on him back in April as they looked to uncover the reason behind the dip in his performances, while the great Andrea Pirlo (speaking to Sky Italy via HITC) slammed him for his performance following the Champions League final.

It will be interesting to see the future developments on this one, as it’s looking like quite the saga.
