Fabian Balbuena made his return to the West Ham United line up during the 1-1 draw against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Prior to the game at London Stadium, the Paraguay international had played just one minute of Premier League football after the opening day loss against Manchester City, as per Transfermarkt.
Balbuena gave a solid defensive performance on his comeback, recording two in successful tackles, clearances and interceptions, as per WhoScored, with his number of tackles and clearances being the joint-highest of any man in claret and blue.
He was also dominant in the air, winning all eight of his aerial duels throughout the 90 minutes, which was the highest number of any player on the pitch.
The one thing he will need to improve is his passing accuracy, as his success rate was 73%, the lowest of any West Ham starter, while he was also dispossessed once.
Having now taken the opportunity to give a good account of himself, it will be interesting to see who Manuel Pellegrini will choose to partner Issa Diop against Newcastle United on Saturday.
This comes with Angelo Ogbonna having started eight games this season, averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.3 interceptions and 5.4 clearances.
With Pellegrini having admitted that it was a mistake to pick Balbuena for the season opener, the Paraguayan has now given himself a chance of being reinstated into the side.
Should Manuel Pellegrini be sacked?
