A number of West Ham fans were critical of the performance of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski despite their 3-2 victory over Liverpool this evening.
While David Moyes’ side ended their opponents’ unbeaten status in the Premier League and duly moved above the Reds into third place in the table after extending their winning sequence in the league to four matches.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was culpable perhaps for all three of the Irons’ goals in this match, although his opposite number may also feel that he could have done more to prevent the visitors from scoring twice on the day.
Shortly before half-time, he fatefully took a step to his right just as Trent Alexander-Arnold curled a free kick into the West Ham net to make it 1-1. He was also caught out for Divock Origi’s late consolation goal, which ensured a nervy finish to proceedings in east London.
Fabianski’s statistics from the match also illustrated some flaws to his game today. As per Sofascore, fewer than half of his 26 passes found a team-mate, while his total of 32 touches was greater than only one Hammers player to feature for the full 90 minutes. He also lost the ball 14 times against the Reds this evening, the joint-fourth highest tally in the home side, and the statistical website gave him a rating of 6.4, higher only than Michail Antonio for the Hammers.
West Ham fans slam Fabianski
These West Ham fans took to Twitter to lament the goalkeeper’s display, with one Irons supporter branding him a “liability” and another saying that he “has to be questioned” over his role in Liverpool’s goals.
“Also, Fabianski is a liability… his kicking under pressure is terrible.”
“Fabianski’s distribution makes me want to cry”
“I don’t wanna be to negative as it’s only 1-1 at half time, but Fabianski has to be questioned for his positioning. There was only one place that Trent wanted to stick that and he’s given him 3/4 of a goal to aim at”
“Dawson and Fabianski at fault AGAIN”
“Fabianski dive at a shot challenge”
“Get Fabianski outta goal man”
