In September 2019, Celtic decided to add more competition to their defensive line by signing young full back Jeremie Frimpong from Manchester City for £342,000, per Transfermarkt. At only 19, he was probably brought in as a player for the future and no one could have imagined the impact he would have in his debut campaign that has made him look like a bit of a bargain.

The right-back has featured 19 times in all competitions including an appearance in the UEFA Champions League, keeping eight clean sheets whilst also managing two goals and three assists, per Transfermarkt. For someone who had only appeared for the youth sides at Manchester City, he has adapted to Scotland’s top flight very well, whilst also picking up a League Cup medal along the way.
He is also in the list of nominees for not just the club’s Young Player of the Season, but also their Player of the Season as well, via Celtic FC, emphasising how great a season people associated with the club believe he has had as well. All of this will increase the player’s price game by game, and Transfermarkt have already noticed this as they currently value him at £1.17 million.
That means that he is already valued at more than double what Celtic paid. Given his age, if Frimpong continues to play well whilst at the club, his price will only continue to increase as gets older and nearer his prime. With the club spending less than £500,000 on the player, you can’t help but feel the Bhoys struck gold with this signing.
