It has been a mixed reaction so far in the Football Transfer Tavern from a Liverpool fan’s perspective as their club have been hushed in the transfer market up to this point, with just two additions to their ranks. 

Admittedly, however, the headline signing so far is a superb acquisition and vastly improves Jurgen Klopp’s options up front as Mohamed Salah is a keen goal scorer and creator, something Reds supporters were massively absent of last term, while former Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke has joined after seeing out his contract in west London.

Although, our landlord can understandably agree why some fan bases are furious with the lack of activity this summer window; especially when you compare it to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and fierce, local rivals Everton who are undeniably splashing the cash.

Perhaps the case for Klopp is he’s becoming reliant on those at his disposal to step up and raise their game with European football on the horizon as well, specifically those who failed to last season.

So with that in mind, here are TWO Liverpool players who need to impress the manager during the club’s pre-season friendlies this month…..

Marko Grujic

Marko Grujic was supposedly meant to be a certain first-team starter at this point in time but our Liverpool-mad bar man thinks it’ll be a while before the Serbian makes a stamp on the senior squad.

The 21 year-old joined the Anfield-based club in January 2016, although spent the next six months continuing to ply his trade for Red Star Belgrade in his home land.

Despite Klopp seemingly in search for midfield reinforcements this summer, it is up to Grujic for the opportunity to become his and could swiftly become a firm fan favourite on Merseyside for years to come, he just needs to prove it in pre-season.

Loris Karius

Loris Karius was seemingly meant to be the new long-term goalkeeper for Anfield but his initial twelve months went just as feared; incapable of living up to the physicality in the Premier League.

Belgian shot-stopper Simon Mignolet regained his number one spot but it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp will stick with those two or dive into the market for an improvement.

Nevertheless, Karius has to adapt quickly and that can be helped via the pre-season friendlies Liverpool have got to face this month in preparation for the new upcoming campaign.
