Puel must start these 3 players in every game for Southampton

The punters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been impressed with Southampton recently...

After they had a rough start to the season, a 3-0 win in the Europa League against Sparta Prague kick started their season and since then they have had some great results and performances – including a 3-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.

There are certain players who have become more prevalent in the team, whilst others have had to be patient for their chances – and the Southampton fans in the Tavern think that some of them deserve to be regulars on the team sheet.

There has also been a lot of debate as to who should be starting in certain roles, such as who should be the Saints’ leading striker.

The landlord has been listening in on the debates and has come up with THREE players he thinks should be starting for Southampton every week…

Do you agree with these picks and who do you think should be playing week in week out for the Saints? Let us know.

Charlie Austin

Charlie Austin is Southampton’s most clinical finisher and needs to be the Saints’ regular frontman.

As well as getting the ball in the back of the net, he is able to bring his teammates into play – which is just as important.

Shane Long is better at hassling the opposition defence, however his recent inability to get on the scoresheet means that Austin has to have the edge over him in terms of getting a starting spot.

James Ward-Prowse

There has always been a lot of talk about James Ward-Prowse, but he has never truly been given a chance to establish himself as a regular for the Saints.

The young Englishman has started games here and there but he hasn’t really been able to get an extended run in the side.

If that regular game time is given to him then this could be the time that he starts fulfilling his potential.

Ryan Bertrand

Ryan Bertrand

Ryan Bertrand has had his injury troubles but now that he is back to full fitness – Cluade Puel must play him in every possible game.

He is the undisputed first choice left back for Southampton and even though Matt Targett did well while the England international was out, Bertrand should play whenever he is available.

He is a key component of a strong Saints defence and needs to be used.
