Many of our resident Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have mixed feelings about the state of their side’s season thus far.
The north London club sit ten points behind league leaders, Chelsea, but also possess a place in the Champions League spots which is leaving a bitter sweet taste inside the mouths of many of the Spurs fans.
Our landlord believes that Mauricio Pochettino’s project at White Hart Lane is still a work in progress but the inconsistency of many of the top clubs in the last couple seasons have enabled them to punch very much above their weight – setting a real picture of potential for when their young stars fully develop into possible world class footballers.
One thing is for sure, that these players have a lot to work on to become that and there have certainly been some passengers among the Lillywhites this season which has frustrated many a Spurs fan this year.
With all that said, our landlord has been keeping an ear out and here are the three most popular flops mentioned by Spurs’ fans this season…
Vincent Janssen
There was a heap of expectation placed on Vincent Janssen when he moved from Dutch side, AZ Alkmaar to White Hart Lane in the summer.
However, for whatever reason, the 2016 ‘Dutch Talent of the Year’ winner has failed to live up the expectation placed on his shoulders having only contributed four goals in all competitions for the north London side so far this season.
It is thought that Janssen was signed to take the pressure off of Harry Kane this season, but the Dutchman has seemed to do the opposite and see Pochettino place a heavier importance on Kane’s goal.
Moussa Sissoko
Another failed summer signing from Mauricio Pochettino.
Sissoko really put himself in the shop window with a few stand out performances for France at Euro 2016 but the former Newcastle man has failed to reproduce these performances whilst donning the white of Spurs this season.
Sissoko has not contributed a goal to Spurs’ venture and though he has provided four assists for his Tottenham team mates, he’s really bee poor.
Furthermore, our landlord does not see it getting easier for Sissoko to break into the Lillywhites’ side due to Pochettino not using out and out wide men and the form of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli in the advanced midfield positions, meaning this season will go down as one to forget for him.
Kevin Wimmer
Spurs’ fans in the Transfer Tavern have become very nervous at the sight of Kevin Wimmer on their side’s team sheet this season.
A few indifferent displays have resulted in Mauricio Pochettino completely changing his formation from three at the back to a simple pairing of Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld.
Our landlord was surprised to see Wimmer stay at Tottenham during the January transfer window and due to his poor performances, he will be surprised to see him at the club at the start of next season.
