Tottenham supporters have been making a lot of noise in recent times after seeing their team move up to third place in the Premier League table at the weekend.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with unbeaten Chelsea at Wembley having won nine and lost the other three of their opening 12 matches, thus sitting just a point behind Maurizio Sarri’s Blues. Yet Spurs produced arguably their best performance of the season to sweep aside the West Londoners, with goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane, and Son Heung-min inspiring the hosts to a 3-1 victory, and thus third place in the Premier League table.
As such, there have been many thrilled Tottenham fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are likely to be interested in recent comments from The Daily Mail columnist Jamie Redknapp, who has lauded the efforts of Alli, Kane, and Christian Eriksen for their roles in Spurs’ ‘superb win’ on Saturday.
In fact, the former England midfielder stated that it was ‘no coincidence that Tottenham’s best performance of season came with’ the trio all starting for Pochettino’s team – and given their exploits both individually and indeed collectively at the weekend, it’s hard to argue with Redknapp’s views.
Ultimately, while Spurs have made their best-ever start to a Premier League season, some have felt that Pochettino’s men haven’t fired on all cylinders so far this term – this all despite winning 3-0 at Manchester United back in August.
But defeats at home to Manchester City and Liverpool have called into question their title credentials, credentials that were clear for all to see on Saturday as they dismantled Sarri’s previously-unbeaten Chelsea – and the aforementioned trio played a vital part.
As Redknapp notes, Saturday was the first time the influential trio lined up in the same Spurs team since their 2-1 loss to Watford back on September 2, which is now nine Premier League games ago, which given just how crucial they have been to Tottenham in recent years underlines just what a fine run they have been on in the last few months.
And the trio combined brilliantly on Saturday to help Pochettino’s men brush aside Chelsea, with Eriksen’s cross finding Alli’s head for the opener; Eriksen providing the assist for Kane for the second; and then Alli teeing up Son to net the third nine minutes into the second half.
But it wasn’t just going forward in which the trio were at their scintillating best, it was also off the ball given, as Redknapp rightly points out, they didn’t give Chelsea’s Jorginho a ‘moment to breathe’ – and given his success since making the move to Stamford Bridge during the summer, they absolutely had to do their bit off the ball as well.
As such, with messrs Alli, Kane, and Eriksen proving to be arguably Tottenham’s most important players over the last few years, it’s hardly surprising that they produced their ‘best performance’ of the campaign on Saturday in lining up alongside each other for the first time in a few months – Redknapp is right to suggest that it was ‘no coincidence’.
