Rangers centre-forward Alfredo Morelos is believed to have attracted attention from Premier League clubs this summer, according to a report by The Daily Record.
London rivals West Ham United and Crystal Palace are both said to be showing tentative interest in the South American striker after continually recording impressive figures for Steven Gerrard’s side.
The 23-year-old has been prolific for Rangers during his time at Ibrox, having scored 49 goals in his 92 appearances for the Light Blues in the two-years since his £1millon move to the club.
Morelos was a key performer for Gerrard’s side last season as he managed to bag himself 30 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt) and that form saw him rewarded with a new contract in March (club’s official website).
Losing him would have to be considered a huge blow as the next best striker in front of goal for the Gers in their 2018/19 campaign was Jermain Defoe, who struck eight goals in his 20 matches (Transfermarkt).
However, Morelos is an individual that has attracted plenty of criticism and is one that many have felt Rangers could be better off without in the past.
Andy Gray admitted he felt the 23-year-old was not capable of playing in the big matches against Old Firm rivals Celtic and said he would definitely get rid of him if it were easy enough to find a replacement for him.
He told the Daily Record: “I’m not a fan of Morelos. He’s unreliable in big games. He’s not done enough against the likes of Celtic – he hasn’t even scored against them yet.
“So I’m not a big fan at all but I do understand Steven has got a guy here who scored more than 30 goals last season. If it was as simple as replacing him with another guy who will score 30 plus next season then I’d definitely get rid. If someone comes in for him with £15m then Rangers would be foolish not to sell him and try to use the money to bring in that replacement.”
The Light Blues have revealed they are yet to receive an offer for the striker (Sky Sports) and whether any side looks to act upon that interest and test Rangers’ resolve for their forward remains to be seen.
Indeed, should a club look to come calling though this summer, Gerrard must hope it gives him enough time to find themselves a replacement if they do decide to let him leave.
