Rangers fans are buzzing after the club announced some good news from the youth set-up, as defender Leon King has penned a professional contract with the club, leading supporters to hail it as a ‘big deal’ and ‘fantastic news’.
As reported by the Gers’ official site, King has signed his first professional deal with the club, committing his future until May 2022. The 16 year-old was a big part of the squad that won the Alkass International Cup last year and was also crowned an under-18 league winner.
Even as a 15 year-old, the youngster was taking part in matches against the likes of Brentford and Huddersfield Reserves, and was also named in the first-team matchday squad for the Scottish Cup cash against Stranraer.
Of course, fans are excited to have a promising young talent signed up for the foreseeable future, while they are also taking the opportunity to have a pop at the current defenders in the senior squad. Check out some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
I’ll put money on it that he’s better than Goldson.

This is a big deal and should not be down played. This is a top youth player who has received Billy Gilmour levels of interest from down south but he has chosen to stay at Rangers. Leon King has the potential to be a star for Rangers and I hope he fulfils it.

Make no mistake about this. This kid has everything to be top drawer. He could quite easily have taken the same decision as billy but this has a huge amount to do with Gerrard and the desire of the club to get back to the top 🔴⚪🔵
