Although Rangers may have booked at their place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup on Saturday, a number of their supporters were left seething with what they witnessed from George Edmundson on the pitch.
The Light Blues continued their hunt for Steven Gerrard’s first piece of silverware at the helm of the Ibrox outfit with a dominant 4-1 victory against Hamilton Academical, with Scott Arfield bagging a brace whilst Joe Aribo and Alfredo Morelos also got in the act (BBC).
However, some sections of the club’s faithful decided to tear into Edmundson for his performance, with many criticising his contribution and appearing to want to see the player benched and not feature too often in the near future.
Indeed, the 22-year-old, who is valued at £630k by TransferMarkt, has been somewhat a bit-part player for Gerrard’s side already since making the move from Oldham Athletic last summer. The centre-back has managed just 10 appearances across all competitions for Rangers, clocking up a total of 644 minutes on the pitch (per TransferMarkt).
One fan even mentioned that he felt Nikola Katic, who did not make the field against Hamilton, would also have been left seething whilst on the bench after witnessing what Edmundson was producing on the pitch.
Here are just some of the Ibrox faithful’s views on the youngster’s latest outing…
Agree Bill it was a celtic-esque scoreline, totally undeserved. Katic must be seething on the bench watching Edmundson

Edmundson was very poor today. It'll be interesting to see if he starts against Kilmarnock, as Gerrard dropped Katic for sloppy displays

That last half hour was a lot better, looked more of the team before Xmas, Aribo in particular was good. Edmundson still to raw for me I’d play Katic, Morelos needed that goal but most of all just glad to be through, started poorly

So Edmundson responsible for two goals conceded. Horrific lack of judgement from Gerrard, no idea what he’s playing at. Running out of excuses for Gerrard, he stands on that touchline defeated and you wonder how he inspires or motivates.

Edmondson has been sketchy. Kept backing off at Hamilton goal and positional sense hasn't been there today.

Thought Edmondson deserved a chance but based on today and Wednesday night hes not ready to start yet.
