According to The Daily Record, Rangers are keeping an eye on 15-goal Dundee United striker, Lawrence Shankland.

Rangers have, of course, been linked with the striker before when he was at Ayr United, where he scored 60 goals in 73 games. A self-confessed blue nose, it certainly is an interesting rumour given his track record over the last few years.
Shankland has shown over the last few years that he can be a prolific goalscorer in Scotland’s lower leagues but there should remain question marks over his capabilities to deliver in the top flight. Although he was just a youngster, he failed to net in 17 appearances for Aberdeen when he previously had the chance.
There is also the issue that he potentially wouldn’t get much game time at a club with Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe leading the line and Greg Stewart as a backup.
Some Rangers fans took to social media to express their opinions on Shankland and whether or not he would be a good piece of business for the Ibrox club.
People don’t understand, Shankland scores goals, not the best footballer just scores goals like a jermaine Defoe and kris Boyd type of player in football you need a goal scorer and I would be a no brainer in a rangers team where you get multiple chances a game to score

Kamara,Stewart&Jones all did well in the Scottish prem at one point in the recent past. Shankland failed at Aberdeen. The fact that Dundee Utd was his best option in the summer tells you what you need to know. And at 24 with limited game time if he went to rangers he wld regress

Shankland wouldn’t get near our team. https://t.co/78Hvdy7p64

@jonnyrmcfarlane @Chr1sMcLaughlin @Cjnovo992 With these Lawrence Shankland rumours I think him coming back to Rangers would be a no brainer.
Also not sure why Scotland don’t give him a shout. Not like we have many strikers banging them in.

As a back up striker Rangers should have 100% taken Lawrence Shankland in the summer. A ‘no brainer’ on so many levels.

Is he a better back up striker than @IAmJermainDefoe who is the #spfl top scorer? Very doubtful! He will top score in the Championship then move to the sheep for 250k and remain average at best.

As you can see, a mixed bag, the perception seems to be that the time to sign him was in the summer on a free contract and given Rangers’ “relationship” with Dundee United owing to some of the latter’s fans wearing Craig White masks in 2013, it’s unlikely that they would be amicable in negotiations.
