RockSport Radio presenter Bill Young has questioned why Rangers have “let slip” their control on top spot in the Scottish Premiership in a post on Twitter.
What is the missing ingredient that is stopping Rangers from maintaining an lead at the top of the Premiership. Not for the first time the Ibrox club have let slip the opportunity to consolidate at the top of the table. WHY?
— Bill Young (@BillRockSport) October 22, 2019
Rangers have only been top of the league on two occasions since 2011/12 – last December and most recently before this weekend’s round of fixtures – hardly enough evidence to suggest a crisis.
On both occasions, the Ibrox club faced tricky away fixtures to Kilmarnock and Hearts respectively. The two results also came after extended gaps in fixtures; last season was after the winter break, and this term was after the most recent international matches. It’s not uncommon for teams to struggle away from home against a team that has had a fortnight to prepare for a match.
There is also one other key factor, in that there isn’t much between Rangers and Celtic so far so it is perhaps just a good old fashioned title race.
Either way, these Rangers fans took to Twitter to ridicule Young’s attempt to make a mountain out of a molehill:
Bill, with respect, it’s a non story. Hearts away was always difficult. The league will be decided by games like this, when either Celti or Rangers salvage a draw, when they could have lost, or won when they could have drawn. They’ve hardly imploded.

Bill, slight knee jerk reaction from the media, had a off day on Sunday and still salvaged a draw, seasons past we’d have been beat! We’ll push on!

Theyre still joint top. No story

Behave!!! It’s a marathon not a sprint. There will be points dropped all through the season. The reaction is more important. They had a two point lead in October, they’ve threw nothing away.

Bill, I suggest like a lot of people you have a look at previous seasons when rangers have won the league. Getting poor results happen. It’s overall consistency that wins the league. Remember being hammered by Hibs at Ibrox.

Still early days Bill. Having reflected on it. I was annoyed. But still a long season to go.
