Rangers defender Borna Barisic had been a doubt to feature in last night’s Europa League game against Feyenoord but was passed fit enough to take his place in the starting line-up.
It turned out to be a mixed night for the Croatian, who provided the cross from which Alfredo Morelos put Rangers ahead in the second half but was held culpable by some for Jens Toornstra’s 33rd-minute goal that gave Feyenoord a half-time lead.
With Rangers under pressure in their penalty area, his headed clearance dropped to Toornstra, who played a one-two before firing to the net as Barisic was unable to get close enough to the Feyenoord midfielder. [via UEFA.com]
Some reporters felt that the 27-year-old didn’t cover himself in glory with his role in that goal. The Scottish Sun‘s David Friel wrote that he “could maybe have done better in lead up to Feyenoord opener”, while Christopher Jack of the Evening Times said that the defender “will be disappointed with his part in the opening goal”.
These Rangers fans on Twitter also turned on Barisic following his first half performance:
Helander doing the defending of 2 men at the moment, Barisic's positioning has been awful.

Really poor from Barisic, why not head the ball wide instead of straight to their player.
We’ve been incredibly sloppy so far. Very fortunate it’s only 1-0.

Is barisic wearing a pair a wellies tonight? Not a single decent cross from him 😭

Do you think Barisic atoned for his first half error with his cross for Morelos’ equaliser? Was the earlier criticism of him justified? Comment below with your views!
