Rangers may have advanced to the last 16 of the Europa League with a 1-0 win away to Braga on Wednesday but that didn’t stop a number of the club’s fans from questioning one decision made by manager Steven Gerrard late in the game.
The ‘Gers were a goal up on the night and 4-2 ahead on aggregate in the 78th minute when striker Florian Kamberi was withdrawn in place of winger Sheyi Ojo, as confirmed by @RangersFC on Twitter.

That was the last of Gerrard’s three substitutions and, with Kamberi playing as a lone striker and Greg Stewart left on the bench, it meant that the Light Blues played without a recognised centre-forward for the final few minutes at the Estadio Municipal (as per TransferMarkt) – a move that some ‘Gers fans perhaps felt was risky given that Braga may still have had ample time to retrieve the two goals they needed.
These Rangers supporters on Twitter were left perplexed by the 78th-minute substitution, with one fan referencing former Scotland manager Craig Levein, who infamously played without a recognised striker in a defeat to Czech Republic in 2010:
