Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Borna Barisic is back in full training despite picking up an injury during international duty.
Barisic has been brilliant for the Gers so far this term, scoring once and providing three assists in the first six games of the campaign. Not only that, the Ibrox outfit have not even conceded a goal with the 27-year-old at left-back. However, whilst away with Croatia, he picked up a knock against Portugal and was left out of the match against France as a result.
Fortunately, though, the issue does not appear to be too serious. Gerrard said: “Itten, Barisic and Defoe are all back in full training.”
This is good news for the manager, of that there is no doubt, and it should mean he is available for selection against Dundee United this weekend. However, the Gers have some big matches coming up, with a Europa League qualifying match, plus clashes away at Hibernian, Motherwell and Celtic to come in the next five Premiership games. Perhaps Barisic should be rested, which would give Calvin Bassey a chance to shine. The 20-year-old was brought in on a free transfer from Leicester City earlier this summer, but has yet to play a game for the first team due to Barisic’s displays.
Will Rangers miss Barisic if he is unavailable against Dundee United?
Either way, Gerrard can count his lucky stars that the £3.6m-valued man – as per Transfermarkt – does not face a spell on the sidelines.
