Alan Hutton has urged Allan McGregor to stay at Glasgow Rangers beyond the end of this season despite thoughts about potentially retiring.
McGregor urged to continue
At the age of 38, McGregor does not have too long left in the game, and his contract is set to run out at the end of the campaign.
“I know his contract’s up in the summer but he’s arguably playing some of the best football of his career, and I’ve told him that.
“He’s 38 now and he’s wondering what to do. But I’m telling him there’s no way you can stop. When you’re in that form you need to keep playing.
“I would like to think Rangers would reward him for his performances with at least another year.”
All good things must come to an end
McGregor has been a fantastic servant for the Ibrox outfit down the years, and there is no doubting his status as a club legend. He has spent 13 years of his career with the 54-time Scottish champions across two spells, and he continues to impress this campaign despite his age, having kept nine clean sheets in 12 league matches.
Does McGregor deserve another contract?
However, the end is surely nigh, and he has the perfect opportunity to end his career in the best possible way. The Gers are well on track to win a first Premiership title since 2011, and it would be fitting if McGregor were to play a big role in that potential success. With Jon McLaughlin waiting in the wings, Steven Gerrard’s side are in good hands when McGregor eventually hangs up his gloves.
In other news, Rangers fans react to this SFA decision.
