Gary Bollan has suggested that Glasgow Rangers left-back Borna Barisic could make a £20m move to the Premier League in the future.
Barisic to move on
Bollan believes that his performances will have attracted interest from the Premier League. Talking about what the future holds for Calvin Bassey, Bollan said:
“Bassey can be a ready-made replacement for Barisic because from what we’ve seen so far, he looks like he can perform to a level that would satisfy Steven Gerrard.
“He has certainly shown he can play.
“He’s a big, powerful boy. He’s quick and athletic and has shown that getting up and down the pitch is no problem for him.
“It’s a big ask for anybody to come in and replace Barisic, because he’s the best left back in the country and he’s the first pick for one of the strongest nations in the world, Croatia.
“If you’ve got the delivery he has, and the athleticism to get up and down the left flank like he does, then there’s no doubt that clubs in England will be looking at him.
“In England, a lot of clubs now play with their full backs high up the pitch and if he went down there, he would be a success. I don’t doubt that for a minute.
“There’s no club in Scotland, if they are offered £20m for players these days – and in today’s market that’s what you’d be looking at for a player like Barisic – that can refuse it.”
Not this season
Barisic certainly has the ability to perform south of the border. Called “terrific” by Alex Rae, he already has nine assists to his name in all competitions this term, and his consistency at club level has made him a regular starter for Croatia.
Can Calvin Bassey replace Borna Barisic in the future?
As with many top players in Scotland, the time will come when they do move on. This season, though, Steven Gerrard cannot afford to lose any of his best players as the Gers look for a first piece of major silverware since 2011. At the end of the campaign, they can entertain any offers, but right now, Barisic’s sale is out of the question.
In other news, Rangers fans laud this youngster against Falkirk.
