Gabriel Agbonlahor has said that Jesse Lingard would love to work with Steven Gerrard at Glasgow Rangers.
Lingard urged to make Ibrox move
Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor believes the lure of playing for Gerrard should convince the 28-year-old to move north of the border. He said:
“Rangers are a big club.
“I’m not sure what goes through Jesse Lingard’s mind but I can imagine he wants to play more football.
“He’s not making the bench for Manchester United so I’m sure he’ll be keen to get out and play somewhere.
“Whether that be at Rangers… I’m sure the lure of playing under Steven Gerrard would get any player, especially an English player because Gerrard is an England legend of the game.
“Maybe it’s something that happens. But maybe there are Premier League clubs that will be interested in Lingard because he’s had a great career.”
Plenty to learn
Gerrard is a legend in the game as a player, of that there is no doubt, and he is starting to make a name for himself as a manager. Having him in the hot-seat will certainly make players slightly more interested to move north of the border, as Jack Wilshere has previously admitted.
Would you like to sign Lingard?
However, with all due respect to Scottish football, a move away from the Premier League to Scotland would be an almighty step down for the England international. He is only 28, meaning he has plenty of football left ahead of me – while Gerrard’s presence is a boost for the Gers, Lingard will need more convincing than that. Previously called a “big-name player” by United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he is likely to feel the English top-flight is where he needs to be.
In other news, Stewart Robertson has revealed these Rangers transfer plans.
