Football Insider pundit Kevin Phillips has urged Billy Gilmour to move to Glasgow Rangers on loan.
Gilmour should make Ibrox move
The Gers have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old, with The Times saying Ibrox could be a potential short-term destination for him.
“Who better to learn on than three of our best ever midfield players in the Premier League.
“He has been learning off Frank Lampard and then he could be playing under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister. For his development it is a no brainer.
“If I am Frank Lampard and I’m looking to loan the boy out, Rangers would be a great move for him. 100 per cent he would consider that.
“He would be learning off three of the best midfield players the Premier League has ever seen so if I am the manager of Chelsea and I would send Gilmour to my friend in Steven Gerrard.
“They also play great football at Rangers so it would suit Billy Gilmour’s game tremendously.”
Indeed, playing under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister could only be good for the midfielder’s development. He has only just broken back into the Chelsea team after suffering a serious knee injury earlier this year, and could therefore do with plenty of playing time.
Would you like to sign Billy Gilmour?
However, it looks as though he could be getting that soon at Stamford Bridge. He started the Blues’ clash against Krasnodar in the Champions League, for example, while he was introduced from the bench during their 1-0 defeat at Everton. Called “world-class” by Roy Keane earlier this year, Gilmour, seems to be firmly in Frank Lampard’s plans. That makes any departure from Chelsea unlikely.
