TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy has said that Glasgow Rangers and Steven Gerrard should try and convince Dele Alli to join the club on loan.
Gers should make Alli move
So far this campaign, Alli has barely been used by Jose Mourinho at Tottenham – he has played just nine times in all competitions for Spurs.
As a result, Murphy believes that he should make a move to Ibrox in an attempt to restore his confidence. He said:
“I’m not sure Dele would be up for it, but I thought maybe Stevie G at Rangers could persuade him to go there and win him the title,
“He’d play every week, score a lot of goals, get his confidence up and impress Gareth Southgate.
“There is an argument to say ‘would that be enough scoring at that level?’ because it is a drop down. But I don’t know. Maybe playing under Stevie is something that he would enjoy.”
This is a rather outrageous claim from Murphy. Alli is valued at £46.8m (Transfermarkt), and has previously been compared to Diego Maradona by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. With 50 Premier League goals, a Champions League final and a World Cup semi-final to his name at the age of 24, he is surely well out of Rangers’ grasp.
Would you like to sign Dele Alli?
From a playing-time point of view, a move to Ibrox would make sense – he would be the top man in the squad. The chance to play under a legend of the game in Steven Gerrard may also entice Alli. Overall, though, it is almost impossible to see the England international plying his trade at Ibrox, especially given that he is on £100,000 a week.
In other news, Rangers fans hammer comments from this former player.
