Gabriel Agbonlahor believes it is “vital” that Glasgow Rangers keep Leon Balogun at Ibrox beyond this current campaign.
Balogun must stay
Balogun made the move to the Gers at the start of this season on a one-year deal – he is therefore set to become a free agent in a few months if the club do not use their 12-month extension option (Transfermarkt).
“It’s vital to not split up the defensive part of the team.
“Steven Gerrard will be looking to add to that – maybe add a couple more squad players.
“But definitely he needs to keep the core of that team together.”
Balogun has been an important player for Steven Gerrard so far this campaign. He has not always been one of the first names on the team-sheet, but he has still played 23 times in all competitions. In fact, the Gers have conceded just four times in the Premiership with him in the side in 16 outings, while he showed his versatility against Antwerp last week when he replaced James Tavernier at right-back.
Should Balogun receive a new contract?
The Gers, therefore, should look to get him to commit his future to the club as soon as possible. With a potential Champions League campaign just around the corner, every bit of experience will come in handy. Balogun may well have a big role to play next season.
In other news, one Rangers ace makes a thinly-veiled swipe at Gerrard.
