Rangers: Campbell slams Leon Balogun - Rangers News

The Athletic journalist and Glasgow Rangers reporter Jordan Campbell has slammed Leon Balogun for his “erratic” display against Aberdeen.

Balogun struggled

Balogun, who signed on a free transfer from Wigan during the summer, started the match at Ibrox against the Dons. In doing so, he contributed to a 17th clean sheet for Rangers in 21 matches.

When Pedro Caixinha was hired, in what position were Rangers?

However, during a Q&A around the match, Campbell was less than impressed with him. He said:

“Balogun was quite erratic I thought though. Goldson had to have a go at him a few times for overcomplicating things.”

Needs to do better

This was Balogun’s ninth appearance of the season, and all in all he has been solid. In fact, the Gers have not yet conceded with him in the back four.

However, given how the Gers are performing at the moment, there is plenty of competition for places under Steven Gerrard. Connor Goldson is a guaranteed starter having played every game, but the place alongside him is up for grabs. Filip Helander and Balogun have both been used throughout the campaign, and with Nikola Katic reportedly close to a return from a serious injury, it is only going to be more difficult to hold down a spot.

In the end, his display didn’t cost the Gers, but if he wants to continue to play regularly this term, he will need to improve.

In other news, this 28-year-old reportedly wants a move to Ibrox.
