Barry Ferguson has told The Daily Record that complacency is the one thing Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard needs to worry about between now and the end of the season.

The Gers have been by far the best team in Scotland this term as they lead the Premiership by 20 points with 14 games left to play (BBC). Barring a major collapse, it is surely only a matter of time before they secure their status as champions.

Their performance against Motherwell wasn’t their best though, as they needed to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw. Ferguson wasn’t impressed by that display, and he warned that the Ibrox outfit must not get ahead of themselves. He said:
“There’s only one word to describe what Gerrard was seeing slipping into his team. Complacency.
“And that should set an alarm bell ringing even though Rangers are now sitting 20 points clear at the top of the table and closing in on a first top tier title in 10 years. In fact, especially because they are.
“That was always my biggest fear whenever we were in a comfortable position on top of the league.”
Remain concentrated
While Gerrard and his side will have been eyeing the title at the start of the campaign, they will no doubt be surprised by the ease with which they obtained the lead. In truth, their fierce rivals Celtic have never looked like providing a real challenge throughout the campaign.

That may be partly down to how imperious the Gers have been – a slip in the quality of their performances may give the chasers hope. It is therefore important that Gerrard and his side stay concentrated until they have completed their task. Legendary status awaits.
