Rangers park up for three needed points

Sub Editor 21 September 2009, 19:14 2 minutes read

Rangers may have picked up just the one point after the away draw in Stuttgart in the Champions League but club officials were stunned to pick up three points exiting Germany. The tactic of parking a bus in front of their goal and hoping for a breakaway, which served them so well en route to Uefa Cup final disgrace in Manchester in 2008, was utilised once again in Germany.

This time though, German officials were ready for them and were quick to impose the penalty on the Scottish champions. Stuttgart parking officials had been tipped off by a similar offence which took place in Bremen in 2008 when Rangers kept Werder at bay to progress in the Uefa Cup.

There was no way for the German side, led by current Juventus player Diego, to navigate around the bus the Ibrox club had parked on the edge of the 18 yard box and Werder Bremen officials were incensed. Rangers officials were unperturbed by the punishment placed upon the club and look set to employ the same tactics when Sevilla come to Glasgow for the next match in the Champions League.

The local parking wardens are likely to be more sympathetic to the Govan clubs plight and methods although lone striker Kenny Miller may be charged by Strathclyde Police for loitering in a public place with no real intent.
