Rangers: Ryan Kent provides injury boost

Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister provided a positive injury update regarding Ryan Kent in his press conference ahead of tonight’s cup clash away at Livingston.

Having missed the 4-0 win over St. Johnstone with a hamstring injury, summer signing Kent was brought up in the press conference.

McAllister said that Kent was “flying around the training ground this morning, he’s moving pretty well.” He also added that the players won’t be rushed back into the matchday fold but they are back training faster than anticipated.

With a tough run of fixtures coming up with Livingston in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final, Aberdeen at the weekend then Young Boys in the Europa League next week, it will come as fantastic news for Steven Gerrard to have such a ‘top player’ back.

Kent was so influential last season for the Gers as he netted six goals and nine assists across all competitions, winning the SPFA Young Player of the Year award in the process.

When he returns to full fitness, he will surely be hoping to regain that form now he is in Glasgow permanently and looks to display performances representative of his £7.5m fee.

With Rangers in fairly good form this season, there’s no real need to rush Kent back for the cup game. Indeed, the Gers only recently beat Livingston with relative ease and do have options such as Sheyi Ojo, Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo to deploy in attacking positions.

Having him back is obviously a boost given what he did for the club last year but there’s no real need to rush him tonight with Jermain Defoe also proving clinical against St. Johnstone last time out. After tonight’s clash, the Light Blues welcome bitter rivals Aberdeen in the league on Saturday before travelling to Switzerland to take on Young Boys, which are far more important games for which they’ll need Kent.
