Steven Gerrard has said that there are likely to be more outgoings than incomings at Glasgow Rangers during the January transfer window, despite the club’s Europa League windfall.
Gerrard discusses transfer plans
The Gers beat Lech Poznan 2-0 on Thursday night to secure top spot in their Europa League group. All in all, their results in European competition have earned them £6m to date.

However, Gerrard has made it clear that some players could be moved on rather than a number of new arrivals coming in in January. He said:
“There will be a few who go out because they need to play, ones who haven’t had much game time.
“I need to be honest and respectful with a couple in the next few weeks.
“But Thursday night’s financial gain doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll go into the market for potential signings.
“We’re really happy with the squad at the moment. If something of interest becomes available, we’d obviously discuss it because myself and the board are on the same page.
“But the result on Thursday doesn’t push it in either direction.
“There’s no getting away from the fact that the boys here now have started the season really well.
“I think we’ve actually gone beyond that now.”
Makes perfect sense
You can fully understand where Gerrard is coming from. A number of players, such as Jordan Jones, George Edmundson, Greg Stewart and Glenn Middleton have barely featured for the 54-time Scottish champions so far this campaign.

After 27 games unbeaten, Gerrard will not want to disrupt the dressing room by bringing in a number of new players either. As he pointed out, if the right options become available, he may change his mind. At the moment, though, he will be delighted with how things are going, and that extra money may come in more handy if the Gers can qualify for the Champions League.
