Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we had got used to the reality that Santos starlet Neymar will be playing for the new La Liga champions Barcelona next season but today’s AS tells a different story with the Spanish paper reporting that Real Madrid are stepping up their efforts to beat arch-rivals Barca to the 21-year-old.
The paper reports that Madrid sent two scouts to watch Neymar in the first leg of the South American Champions League between Santos and Corinthians yesterday and they may be ready to snatch the talented attacker away from their fierce rivals.
Barcelona are only prepared to pay more than £25 million for the player whose contract runs out at the end of next season but Santos are hoping that Real may be that desperate to sign the Brazilian international that they will pay the massive £59 million release clause to land Neymar.
It is widely thought that the youngster may wait until after the world cup in his home country before moving to Europe but he is expected to have a pre-contract agreement signed with a club, probably Barca, before the tournament kicks off next summer.
Will Neymar choose Barca or Real, or perhaps somebody else? Rate this rumour below.
