This week, our landlord has been busy pulling the pints for the Middlesbrough fans in the Transfer Tavern following their relegation from the Premier League on Monday night.

Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Boro saw them drop back down to the Championship a year after they secured promotion following a second place finish in the second tier. Since then, it is fair to say not everything has gone to plan for the Teeside club who saw Aitor Karanka sacked in March after three and a half years at the club.

Boro’s failure to sack Karanka quicker and then their inability to appoint a well renowned manager has seemed to have cost them and although Steve Agnew did his best to keep the club up, his best was not good enough as Monday showed.

Of course, with the end of the season comes a review and our landlord believes Boro’s review will be more harsh than most. Their are members of the squad that simply have not put in enough shifts for the shirt and it is more than likely that these players will be axed upon review.

Our landlord’s statements have really caused a discussion among the Boro fans in the Tavern and they agree that some players need to be let go due to their disappointing performances this season.

Here are the main two players who have been mentioned in this discussion…

Victor Valdes

Valdes was replaced by Brad Guzan in April by caretaker boss, Steve Agnew, and his future has been up in the air since.

The club’s relegation would not have helped settle down the rumours with some whispers going around – via Bleacher Report – that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to be reunited with his former number one whom he managed at Barcelona.

Boro fans in the Tavern simply could not care less if Valdes left the club and are hoping they can get a decent fee for the 35-year-old goalkeeper.

Viktor Fischer

Surely the forgotten man at the Riverside, Fischer came to Boro with huge prospects but has not featured in the Premier League in 2017.

The Danish international has also been axed by his national side and the feeling in the Tavern is that both the player and the club are looking to move on which may see Fischer turn out for a new club come the time the new season comes around.

Our landlord feels Fischer has not been given a fair chance at Boro, especially given that he showcased a huge amount of talent at his previous club, Ajax.
