The 2016/17 season will go down as a satisfactory year for the Saints fans in the Football Transfer Tavern, as the south coast side have been forced to adapt to a new manager with a different approach and philosophy.
That has meant most of the first-team have had to adjust their game as the Saints looked ahead to an average campaign in the top-flight, struggling to challenge the top-seven – something they’ve done consistently in recent times.
Claude Puel slowly seems to be winning over the large majority of the fanbase, which is always a sign of positive progression and that the club is heading in the right direction.
He’s been able to maintain the idea that Southampton like to use their own players as much as possible without the need to go into the transfer market, something that has pleased our Saints-mad barman, of course.
However, that has meant certain individuals have either displeased the manager or failed to get regular game time – realistically, these TWO players at the club are likely to be axed this summer….
Florin Gardos

Florin Gardos has made just a handful of appearances during his three-year spell on the south-coast, mainly due to injury problems and constant changes in managerial teams.
The Romanian international was side-lined for the first half of this campaign but made a comeback in the 5-0 FA Cup defeat to Arsenal – not featuring in a single match since.
Gardos has played in two competitive games all season, one in the EFL Trophy and that loss to the Gunners, meaning it is likely he’ll be axed in the coming summer.
Charlie Austin

Since the arrival of Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini, Charlie Austin has found his first-team chances at a limit with a measly six goals in thirteen outings this campaign for the Saints.
Supporters by theb ar are glad they now finally have a striker they can rely on to ripple the net on a week-in, week-out basis and that may just end the spell for Austin at St. Mary’s.
The 27-year-old is now more or less third down the pecking order at striker as Shane Long continues to get match time, ending his time at Southampton and the axe is possibly going down on him this summer.
Saints fans, do you think it’s wise to axe these two? Who else would you get rid of this summer? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below!
