Paul Gorst has said that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool looked at Lloyd Kelly before he made the move to Bournemouth last year.
The Cherries signed the 21-year-old for £13m in May 2019 after impressing for Bristol City – he made 48 appearances for the Championship side after making his debut in 2017. So far, he has been a bit part player for Eddie Howe, making just one appearance in the League Cup.

Gorst was answering questions during a Q&A for the Liverpool Echo, and when asked whether the Reds will be looking to sign a left-back this summer, he said:
“I don’t think LFC will target a left-back. Klopp is happy with options of Milner/Gomez plus Yasser Larouci is coming through. It was a priority of sorts last summer and Lloyd Kelly was looked at before he went to Bournemouth. I think Klopp is happy with what he has at the moment though.”
As it stands, Andrew Robertson is Klopp’s first-choice left-back, but beyond him there are very few reliable options. James Milner has been the man to slot in there when the Scotland international has not been available, but he is not a defender by trade, and otherwise there is only youngster Yasser Larouci.

In all fairness, Kelly has shown little on the south coast to suggest he would have been able to deal with the pressures of Liverpool, but a new left-back would not go amiss for the European champions.
