The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern believe Mauricio Pochettino has a much better squad than last year after a late flurry in the market.
Indeed, the arrivals of Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth, Davinson Sanchez and Fernando Llorente give the Argentine coach a huge amount of options and those propping up the bar think it’s his best squad yet.
However, there has been one notable absence of late. Erik Lamela hasn’t featured for the club since way back in October and wasn’t included in their Champions League squad, much to the disappointment of our punters.
A hip problem has been plaguing the former Roma man, who became one of the club’s most important players after a difficult first season, and our resident Spurs fans are desperate to see him return.
So, comments from Tottenham legend Ricky Villa haven’t gone down well at all today. Speaking to Argentine radio station AM90 and relayed by Bola VIP, the 65-year-old hinted there is a concern that his compatriot will play AGAIN.
“Unfortunately, Erik Lamela was operated on the hip”, said Tottenham’s Hall of Famer.
”There is concern to know if he will play again. In England they are worried about him, but, because of how the medicine is today, hopefully he can return.”
As you can imagine, this news has shocked our Tottenham supporters.
Landlord’s Verdict:
Lamela is a huge miss for Tottenham, few would doubt that. While Pochettino has found a way to operate without him, the attacker brings a whole new dimension to their set-up, able to bring the ball from deep at pace.
Hopefully for them, Villa has his wires crossed, though it’s important Lamela return as soon as possible.
Thoughts?
