Roles Reversed: 2 Liverpool players who need to move to Southampton to kickstart their career

Reds fans here in the Tavern are just as willing to see some of their fringe players depart the club as they are to see some fresh faces come in.

Liverpool have always been busy in transfer windows as they continue to look towards a first Premier League title.

However, their lack of silverware could just be down to them looking to only snatch players from their so-called ‘feeder club’ Southampton, after taking their 6th Saints casualty in the form of Virgil Van Dijk.

Having seen the likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane and now Virgil Van Dijk join the lengthy list, it’s about time they reversed the roles and brought some of the Reds talent back to St Mary’s.

With Liverpool’s spending and being forced to buy to cover injuries, it’s left them with an expanding roster, causing for many players to miss out on regular game-time as they look for a possible exit in January.

For a Southampton side that are struggling to string a run of results together in recent times, this may be the perfect opportunity to bolster their ranks by making use of the ‘feeder’ link they have with the club.

Nevertheless, with Southampton looking worse for wear after being stripped to the bare minimum after Liverpool’s latest capture. Here’s a look at TWO players who should make the switch to the south coast.

Daniel Sturridge

The 28-year-old striker was sublime during Liverpool’s title-chasing season under Brendan Rodgers, but ever since has suffered with injury and a lack of game-time with transfer window signings taking his place.

However, for a player that’s been in the England side for the most of his career, he possesses an incredible ability if given the opportunity with bags of goals guaranteed with the Liverpool man.

For the Saints, Daniel Sturridge could be an incredible asset to their side, and their future in the Premier League. Providing the goal-scoring spark and the magic to get in behind the opposition’s defence, he’d work perfectly with the likes of Nathan Redmond producing.

Indeed, according to reports Daniel Sturridge is a target for Southampton after taking an interest in the striker with Charlie Austin out until February in what would be a wonderfully smart loan deal.

Dejan Lovren

The Croatian joined Liverpool back in 2014 for £20 million after enjoying the best spell of his career with Southampton.

As one of the first players to start the ‘feeder club’ trend, he’s not had the same effect as the others after suffering a lot of criticism at Anfield over the past couple of seasons, with his common mistakes often costing the side.

However, with Southampton fans still picturing the glorious partnership he formed with Jose Fonte, they’ll be open to the opportunity of welcoming the 28-year-old back to St Mary’s.

According to reports, Jurgen Klopp came out to say that the signing of Virgil Van Dijk will see Lovren dropped, this may well give the green light for a move back to the Saints.
