West Ham’s Premier League campaign ended with a convincing 3-0 win over Leeds United on the final day of the season, but it ultimately proved meaningless in the fight for survival.
The Hammers’ relegation to the Championship has now triggered major uncertainty around the squad, with several key players expected to leave east London during the summer window as the club prepares for life outside the top flight.
And it appears one of Europe’s biggest clubs is already positioning itself for a move.
AS Roma Keen on Crysencio Summerville
AS Roma are reportedly pushing to sign West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville following the club’s relegation, with the Dutch attacker emerging as a priority target for Gian Piero Gasperini.
Summerville, previously described as “incredible” by former West Ham midfielder Kevin Nolan, was one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise miserable campaign for the Hammers. The 24-year-old scored seven goals across all competitions, including strikes against Tottenham and Chelsea, while also producing key assists in important matches throughout the season.
Gazzetta dello Sport claim Roma have admired the winger for some time, with Gasperini believed to be a particularly big fan of his explosive style and direct attacking ability. The Serie A side reportedly attempted to explore a deal back in January, only for West Ham to reject the approach.
However, relegation has significantly weakened the club’s position, and there is now growing belief in Italy that Summerville could be available for around €35 million — notably lower than the valuation West Ham previously demanded.
Roma’s qualification for next season’s Champions League is also understood to be a major factor in their confidence, while the presence of fellow Dutchman Donyell Malen at the club could further strengthen their chances of landing the winger.
There is still expected to be competition from the Premier League, with Tottenham among the clubs credited with interest, but Roma now appear firmly in the race as West Ham brace for a difficult summer rebuild.
