Just when we thought Roy Hodgson was a dead man walking at Anfield, the Liverpool boss plays his trump card: he’s going to turn everything around by signing two strikers.
But, Liverpool fans, before you leap from your chair, punching the air in exalted triumph just yet, be warned: we’re talking one Championship player and one “hot prospect” here.
The one for the future is apparently already a done-deal; he’s 21-year-old Dutch sensation, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, and he’s already hit 11 goals in 17 starts for FC Utrecht this season.
He’ll cost around £8m, and as Hodgson told the club’s official website, he’s just what Liverpool need:
“As I’ve said to the supporters many times, it’s important that we don’t just get bodies and numbers. We need people who are going to be very good for the long-term future of the club, or players who are definitely going to make a big difference to us in terms of what we’re going to do in the beginning of 2011.”
Just how much of the club’s long-term future Roy will be involved in remains to be seen.
BUT that’s not all: the boss has also got his Fulham cap back on, and is preparing for a bidding war with his old club for Crystal Palace’s 18-year-old forward, Wilfried Zaha.
The scouts have already been deployed, and Kenny Dalglish is rumoured to have a hand in this deal, too. Palace will demand a fee of £2m for their man.
The transfer widow will certainly be a busy time at Anfield, and Hodgson has clearly made signing a striker his top priority, having also been linked with Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge and Bolton’s Johan Elmander recently.
Well, as the boss says: “We have a lot of ideas”.
What do you think, Liverpool fans: are they the right ones?

Not a hope in hell Hodgson will have a say in players coming in, if he had we would sign Carlton Cole.
Signing Wolfswinkel is understandable, He looks good and has the potential do become a class player. Signing Elmander or Sturridge is going backwards! As Gerrard and Torres have been saying, we need more CLASS players! Why aren’t we linked with players like Podolski who plays for Cologne? They need to be more shrewd in the market!
“we need more CLASS players! Why aren’t we linked with players like Podolski who plays for Cologne?”
hahahahahahaha class players he says then mentions Podolski as an example, what a joke!
Class players then we are talking about Aguero, Benzema(but he’s lazy apparently), Higuain, Bojan, Llorente, Ibrahimovic, Vucinic(the Roma striker) etc. the list is long but Podolski definitely doesn’t feature on it.
RvW is alright “for the future” and I don’t know this other kid.
Just from his body language the fans can tell he has no idea how to get the best of his team. While other managers would yel instruction from their technical area, you can find Hodgson scratching jis head, his chin or just mumbling nothing as he pace up and down along his technical area.
As for good new signings, lets just hope (if he is still around) that he knows how to best utilise them…….
I have a good idea, why does’nt just F OFF.
