After escaping the drop last year and now with a new manager in place West Ham will be looking for a solid mid-table finish this time around. With Messrs. Sullivan and Gold in charge there should be some money available to help them acheive this and the Hammers are currently linked with a number of players.
Top of their list appears to be higlhly rated West Brom midfielder Graham Dorrans, by far the stand out player in the championship last year. The Scotsman cost the Baggies just £100,000 so it is easy to see why a rumoured bid of £4.5 million could be enough to prise him away.
Elsewhere it seems that the East London outfit have been trying to replicate a deal in the mould of the audacious swoop that brought Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to Upton Park. Santos have rejected a £12 million bid for striker Neymar, unimaginatively monikered as “The new Pele”. Not heard that nickname before, eh?
If Matthew Upson’s exit from the Bolyen Ground goes ahead then a possible replacement being lined up is Nice captain Apam Onyekachi who could come in for around £4 million and may prove a sound investment. After letting the chance to sign Martin Petrov go the door could now be open to snap up Hearts winger Andrew Driver, rated at around £1 million.
The young winger would fit in nicely with Grant’s ethos of bringing in young players and would probably be welcomed by the Clarets fans if he meant that Luis Boa-Morte was prevented from pulling on a West Ham shirt.
