Celtic fans will have been eager for the departure of Brendan Rodgers to not disrupt any of their momentum in challenging for an unprecedented Treble treble and will be pleased Neil Lennon has seemingly fit back straight in place at Celtic Park.
However, with the former player’s second spell in charge lasting until the end of the season, for the time being, it would not be wrong for fans to be considering who could be in charge for the next campaign, although one man does not appear to be in the running.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Scottish Sun, Alex Neil has ruled himself out of contention for the job.
Believed to be on the club’s wish list to replace Rodgers, the Preston North End boss does not appear to have any plans of returning to Scotland imminently and wants to continue his work with the Championship side.
“When I was at Norwich I was linked with the Rangers job and now this,” he said.
“It is rare to be linked with Celtic and Rangers because people like to think you are one or the other.
“I have no thoughts about moving club or anything like that.
“I am the Preston manager and I am enjoying my time here and we have a lot of scope to improve. Being the boss here has my full focus.”
With Neil doing an impressive job at Preston this season, it does not appear as though he will be heading back across the border any time soon.
The manager has done well within English football since his stint as Hamilton Academical boss and could have been a viable option for Celtic, should they choose to look beyond Lennon at the end of the current campaign.
However, with the Northern Irishman in charge and plenty of time remaining in the current campaign, fans at the club will want to see all the focus on the pitch and see their players continue their fine season by capping it off with a Treble treble as they continue to try and dominate Scottish football.
With the decision not having to be made until the summer, a number of other names are likely to be mentioned and who knows, if Neil does not achieve a playoff spot with Preston, he may change his mind and take the job at Celtic Park.
