Celtic and Rangers could be about to go head-to-head in the transfer market for a promising defensive talent this summer.
According to a report by The Express (19 February, page 47), via HITC Sport, the two Glaswegian outfits are interested in John Mahon.
Both Scottish Premiership sides are thought to be keen on adding defensive additions to their ranks in the summer and the Sligo Rovers defender appears to be on their wishlist.
The 19-year-old has been impressing with his performances for the first-team this season and has made 24 appearances so far in his breakthrough campaign.
It is understood he would prefer a switch to The Bhoys should he have a decision to make.
Mahon looks to have a promising career and a move to either Celtic or Rangers could be an excellent thing for him.
The defender was recently called into the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 squad, which would suggest that he has a bright future at international level ahead of him as well.
As HITC Sport mention, Celtic will be in the market to potentially replace Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic.
Steven Gerrard will likely want to replace Joe Worrall following his loan spell from Nottingham Forest and could find Mahon as an ideal replacement.
