Celtic could look to bring a Scotland international to Parkhead in the winter, should he become available for transfer.
It is believed the midfielder could be made available for loan in the January transfer window as Jose Mourinho feels it may be best for his development.
The Portuguese manager has been critical of McTominay’s performances this season, although it is understood he is still a big fan of what the 21-year-old can do.
Aston Villa and Leeds United were strongly linked with moves for the midfielder and could return for him in January after having offers rejected for him in the summer.
Celtic, who were loosely linked with McTominay, may also look to attempt to land him on a temporary basis as well.
Despite his manager being a big fan of his, McTominay appears to be out of the reckoning at Manchester United for the time being following the public dressing down he was given after the Newcastle United game.
A temporary move away from the club could be the best thing for the youngster and a move to Scotland with the Scottish Premiership champions could be one that would benefit him.
The 21-year-old would be continuing to play at a high level, provided Brendan Rodgers plays him, and there would also be a sense of pressure that he would be able to learn from and take back to Old Trafford when he completes his spell with the club.
However, it remains to be seen if Celtic do make a move for him, especially given the interest from some of the Championship’s biggest sides as well.
