Celtic: Fee agreed with Leicester City for Odsonne Edouard exit - Celtic

Leicester City have reportedly agreed a fee to sign Odsonne Edouard from Celtic, according to the Daily Record.

After yet another productive year in Celtic colours, the 23-year-old looks set to leave the Glasgow giants.

The Lowdown: Goals aplenty for Odsonne Edouard

Joining permanently from Paris St Germain for £9m back in 2018 [Sky Sports], he has contributed a whopping 83 goals and 37 assists from 168 appearances during his time in Scotland [Transfermarkt].

In a grim 2020/21 season for Celtic, the Frenchman remained a beacon of hope as he offered up 28 goal contributions for the Celts, with 22 goals and six assists [Transfermarkt]. A hallmark of consistency, it is no surprise that he has attracted strong interest from across the continent.

Could this now be the time for Edouard to move on to pastures new?

The Latest: £18m fee agreed

Leicester appear to have ‘won the race’ for the France under-21 international’s signature [90min]. Contractually, the striker only has 12 months left on his Celtic deal, making a summer departure almost inevitable to stop him leaving Parkhead for free in 2022 [Transfermarkt].

Intriguingly, the Foxes seem to have beaten off the likes of Arsenal and Inter Milan for Edouard’s services [Daily Record]. With a fee agreed at £18m, the Hoops icon looks set to team up with his former manager Brendan Rodgers, who initially brought him to the Scottish club [Daily Record].

Barring any last-minute hitches, the FA Cup winners could announce his signature as soon as Celtic appoint a new manager, as Ange Postecoglou looks set to take the Celtic Park hotseat [Leicestershire Live].

The Verdict: Time is right for Edouard to move on

Sadly, the time has probably come for Celtic and Edouard to part ways. Having won eight trophies for the Hoops, the Frenchman has forever endeared himself to the Parkhead faithful [Transfermarkt].

As for Leicester, this deal makes perfect sense. Acutely aware of his capabilities, Rodgers once labelled Edouard ‘top-class’ in an interview with the Glasgow Times.

At 23, Edouard may be seen as the long-term replacement for Foxes legend Jamie Vardy as the East Midlands club look to build on their outstanding 2020/21 campaign.

In other news, Celtic agree personal terms with a potential landmark appointment.
