Celtic fans will have been disappointed that their side were unable to extend the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership further following Rangers’ slip up a day earlier.
Although the Bhoys will surely want to focus with things on the pitch as they look to accomplish a Treble Treble, there will be plenty of talk about a number of personnel at the club and their respective futures, which has led to speculation regarding possible additions.
What’s the News?
According to CNN Turkey, Celtic are understood to be interested in Red Star Belgrade’s Srdjan Babic.
However, the £1.35million-rated enforcer (Transfermarkt) is wanted by a number of clubs this summer though, with the likes of Besiktas, Monaco, Nice and Feyenoord all allegedly believed to be keen on the enforcer.
With the likes of Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic set to leave the club in the summer, Celtic must consider who to bring into the club in the transfer window as possible replacements.
Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic will be their only options and both have always been too reliable at the back, making the need for reinforcements something that needs to be addressed.
And, Babic could be the exact type of defender they need to bring to Celtic Park, as the 22-year-old has shown plenty of promise in his short career to date.
The former Serbia Under-21 international is comfortable on the ball and is happy to play the ball out from the back, however, Celtic fans will likely be pleased that he does not necessarily take risks whilst in defence.
Still a raw talent, Babic still has room to improve further and has gained significant experience already, having played for Real Sociedad and Red Star in some of Europe’s biggest competitions.
Celtic fans, do you think Babic could be an excellent replacement for Boyata or Benkovic? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
