Celtic have found their ideal Plan B in the form of striker Vakoun Bayo, according to a report from Football Insider.
The 22-year-old joined Neil Lennon’s side from Dunajská Streda in the summer and netted his first goal for the club in their 5-0 demolition of Partick Thistle in the Scottish League Cup.
However, according to a Football Insider source, Lennon believes that Bayo offers a perfect alternative option for the Bhoys. He realises that Celtic will not always be able to break teams down through clever attacking play, so will require his physical presence and aerial threat to win some games.
The former Hibernian manager has also voiced his appreciation of Bayo’s game publicly. Indeed, after his goal against Partick Thistle, Lennon even compared him to former Celtic great Henrik Larsson: “We like Vakoun and he’s got that aerial threat and that hanging time that Henrik used to have.
“Bayo has got that natural talent for timing in the air which you don’t see very often nowadays because heading the ball is a lost art in the game. He brings an extra dimension to the way we play and it’s a nice asset to have.”
Having a player like this within the squad will certainly come in handy for Celtic. It gives them something different up front and with Leigh Griffiths still returning to fitness, it gives some cover to Edouard and should take away some of the pressure on the Frenchman’s shoulders.
