Celtic appear to already be looking ahead to the January transfer window and have a young duo in mind.

According to a report by the Newcastle Chronicle, Newcastle pair Freddie Woodman and Sean Longstaff are both wanted by Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The Hoops are believed to be keeping an eye on the duo after the club were seen scouting the pair during the developmental side’s last match.

It is understood that the Scottish Premiership champions could face some competition for the duo, with the likes of Kilmarnock and Manchester United also thought to be monitoring the situation as they are yet to sign new deals with the club.

Woodman is regarded as one of the brightest goalkeepers in the English game at the moment and Rafa Benitez has been vocal about how he feels about the England Under-21 international.

Longstaff is also thought to be highly-rated at Newcastle and is also considered to be one of their most exciting academy products to come through the ranks for a number of years.

The Verdict:

If Celtic were to add either, or both, of them to their squad in the near future, it should be regarded as great business by Rodgers’ side.

The Bhoys have an ageing goalkeeping department with Craig Gordon and Dorus De Vries currently at Parkhead, meaning Woodman could be one for the near, if not, immediate future.

Longstaff would also be another excellent option for the Hoops as well if they were to add him as he would help to give Celtic another exciting option in the middle of the park.
