Celtic may have all-but-sealed their place as champions of the Scottish Premiership once again, however, there are still going to be plenty of questions and issues that will need to be addressed.
Neil Lennon’s future is far from clear and whilst the club are expected to make changes to their squad in the summer, it appears one man is destined for the exit at Celtic Park.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Football Insider, Celtic are set to tell Dorus de Vries that he will not have his contract extended in the summer and will need to look for a new club.
The 38-year-old may have been included in recent matchday squads under Lennon, however, he has not featured for the Scottish Premiership side since March 2018.
It really does not come as a surprise to hear that De Vries will not have his contract extended and will be free to look for a new club this summer.
As mentioned, the Dutch goalkeeper has become a largely forgotten figure at the club as his last appearance for the Bhoys was over a year ago.
And, things are unlikely to improve for him in the near future as Scott Bain has been used in Craig Gordon’s absence, whilst Connor Hazard has been named as a substitute over the veteran in some matches.
A hugely experienced shot-stopper, he may have brought something to the goalkeeping department behind the scenes and the youngsters could have benefitted from it.
However, with his time all-but-over at Celtic Park, there must also be doubts about whether he will play professional football again.
Celtic fans, are you surprised that De Vries will be allowed to leave in the summer? Or is it expected? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
