A number of Celtic fans on social media have sprung to the defence of Patryk Klimala amid some criticism of his performance on his first start for the club on Sunday.
The Polish striker, who had previously made three substitute appearances for the Hoops after signing for the club last month, was named in Neil Lennon’s starting XI for the Scottish Cup tie at Clyde. Unfortunately, he passed up a good chance to score his first goal for the club in the 37th minute when he was played through on goal by James Forrest and tried to chip onrushing goalkeeper David Mitchell, only for the Clyde stopper to get a glove to the ball and divert it away from danger. He also thwarted Klimala with a second-half effort on Sunday afternoon. [via Daily Mail]
The Celtic forward’s display was criticised by some reporters afterwards. Nathan Dunn of Read Celtic wrote that he “didn’t show his worth after missing two decent opportunities”, while Sourav Mahanty of thecelticbhoys.com felt that he blew his chance when named in the starting XI and feels that “it will be quite some time before he gets another start”.
However, these Hoops fans on Twitter were sticking up for Klimala, who is still in the infancy of his Parkhead career, and believe that he will come good:
Clowns , slaying klimala on his performance today , should have scored 1on 1 but he needs game time , remember larrson 1st game ????

Canny judge Klimala on one performance. The boy will come good.

First half is what you expect, dominant. Klimala still finding his feet but game time will do him good, offers something different.
Give us another couple goals and we’ll be on our way.

Anyone giving Klimala stick after one game on a plastic pitch during a storm, needs their head looked, can remember guys like McClair and McGarvy taking months to settle, give the boy a chance 🍀

People are slating klimala for missing a goal he should’ve put away as if eddy and Griffiths haven’t done that before? Look at how good they are. Terrible conditions, give the boy a chance before you open Twitter to complain.

People need to stop retiring Klimala already, the boy will settle in eventually and he still managed to get an assist today – give him time!

Klimala is young and raw but I’m 100% sure this boy will come good. There is something about him. It’s a big move for him and he needs a lot of time to adjust and improve. If he works hard he will be dynamite 🧨 maybe not this season though. Patience required here.🍀👍🏻
