Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Scotland ace Alan Hutton has praised Celtic youngster Jeremie Frimpong for his past performance against Ryan Kent – hinting that the 19-year-old definitely has a big future at Parkhead.
Hutton, who won 50 international caps over his playing career whilst also representing the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham at club level, has since gone on to give his analysis as a pundit – speaking exclusively to Football Insider regarding promising Celtic teenager Frimpong. The 19-year-old has started 12 Premiership games for the Hoops this season and played in the Betfred Cup final in which he managed to tame Kent.
Neil Lennon’s side went on to secure their first trophy of the season with a 1-0 victory at Hampden Park, shutting out their rivals in part due to Frimpong’s solid performance. Now, using that afternoon as evidence, Hutton has insisted that the youngster has a bright future.
“I remember the Old Firm game, the big talking point was Ryan Kent against Frimpong – everything he’d done before that was amazing going forward and attacking,” explained Hutton to Football Insider.
“I was thinking: ‘Here’s your first test defensively.’ He (Kent) didn’t get by him once.
“That’s a massive tick in the box. He’s answered a lot of questions, people probably said well can he defend – he looks quite slight? He’s stood up to the challenge and he’s one I’m definitely looking forward to next season.”
Indeed, Frimpong could very well be one to watch – especially considering the fact that he still has many playing years ahead of him.
