So, it’s surely almost guaranteed that Celtic won’t be retaining Oliver Burke’s services beyond this season.
Indeed, the West Brom loanee just hasn’t impressed as intended, proving unable to score many goals or impress when leading the line for the Hoops. An incredible waste of huge talent, considering how good he looked during his emergence at Nottingham Forest.
Burke’s been inconsistent as well as lacklustre up front, scuffing chances and just not scoring enough goals. Now, as things stand, he’ll return to England soon, but the Hoops have already started looking for replacements.
Emilio Izaguirre recently revealed (quotes sourced by the Scottish Sun) that his side has been interested in signing international team-mate Alberth Elis from Houston Dynamos in Major League Soccer. The 23-year-old’s taken the USA top-tier by storm, scoring four goals and assisting five in eight appearances this season. An electric striker, the Honduras international could work wonders at Parkhead.
There’s nothing quite like a potential transfer gem, is there? While Burke looks to be a stale fairly big name doing little to prove worthy of his reputation, no one quite knows what to expect from Elis. Yes, it may turn out badly, but where’s the fun in that?
Celtic need a sense of excitement right now. Perhaps that sounds a bit silly considering their domestic dominance but the worst thing they can possibly do when this close to 10 in a row is to let things go stale, as we’ve seen with the likes of Bayern Munich and PSG, who have endured problems in the last few years after previously being untouchable in their leagues.
Elis is highly skilfull striker with elite predatorial instincts clear in his game. He can not only get into space and move with pace but can also wiggle past oppositions to score goals. The 23-year-old can also operate through the wing, with his quickness along with a clever vision for finding team-mates helping his cause.
The Honduras international could be a great match with Odsonne Edouard and work to his advantage. Elis’ impressive hold-up play, linking ability makes him the perfect line for a two-man striking line. He’s definitely more clinical than Burke, possessing a ruthless nature which can enable Celtic to operate with their high-octane style without any roadblocks.
