A lot of Celtic fans are raving over Billy Stark after fan St.Anthony tweeted a picture of the former player and discussed his time at the club.
It was thought that the player was going to sign for the Hoops in 1977, per thecelticwiki, however they had to wait ten years for the signing to become reality when they managed to acquire him in 1987.
The midfielder made 74 appearances during his three years at the club, scoring 25 goals, per thecelticwiki, this is a very impressive record for a player in his position. He was able to keep up similar numbers wherever he played, including 41 goals 109 appearances whilst he was at Aberdeen from 1983-87.
He managed to win a lot of silverware during his time at the Hoops, which included one league title and two Scottish Cups, and even though he only spent three seasons at the club, he is clearly still fondly remembered as fans still discuss the Scotsman 30 years after he left.
Here is what fans had to say following the tweet, with one describing him as “immense”:
Pic before bed: I remember Celtic signed Billy Stark from Aberdeen in summer of 1987. I was distraught, I thought he was over the hill dud. How wrong can you be? One of finest football brains I've seen in any Celt. Wish we'd signed him in 1977. Met him later years, real gentleman pic.twitter.com/jrXm0qUsKB

Had the pleasure of looking after him and his wife at our annual supporters’ club dance at the end of that season. An absolute gentleman. Made time for everybody. Class act on and off the pitch.

I was delighted we’d signed him – my girlfriends family were all Dandies they were distraught at him going – I knew we’d get goals from him his ability to arrive late in the box & score was immense

When he signed I knew we were getting a good player. I was just a bit concerned that he could be as good and as influential as Murdo who had left us a few weeks earlier.
He wasn’t the new Murdo (few could be) but he was a very astute signing.

Pound for pound he is up there with anyone

A huge influence when he signed, first signing for Billy, took the pressure off the bigger money(for us) young Andy Walker, clever management imo.
Like you say, wish we’d got him a decade earlier, add him to the long list Stanton, Lubo, Rieper, Hartley, Robson . . .
