As the club could be set to lose two options in that department, Neil Lennon might need to strengthen even further. Help on that front has arrived, however, as the Bhoys confirmed on their Twitter feed yesterday that Boli Mbombo had signed for the club last night from SK Rapid Wien.
According to the BBC, who have also been quick to report of the latest Parkhead arrival, the Belgian full-back has set Lennon and Peter Lawwell back around £3m as he joins the club who he made his Rapid Wien debut against, having featured in a friendly against the Hoops back in 2017.
Boli Mbombo looks like he could be a very smart coup by Neil Lennon. The Belgian defender has highlighted, as per the BBC report, that he sees himself very much as a left-back first and foremost, although Lennon also stressed, in the same article, that Mbombo ‘can play in a variety of left-sided roles’.
Additionally, ex-Rangers man and fellow Belgian, Thomas Buffel, has come out and given his verdict, via The Daily Record, claiming that Mbombo ‘is a player who will excite the Celtic fans’ and that ‘he likes to get forward and put crosses into the penalty box’, something that could prove useful in an attack that plundered fewer goals than their closest challengers in the league last season.
Averaging 63% possession last season (per FootyStats), having another attacking outlet is obviously a bonus, considering the fact that goals were a slight problem compared to second-placed Rangers, so moving to address that even slight issue speaks to a dominant side hell-bent on improving further.
